05/18/2005: "Graphite enabled Firefox and Thunderbird"

Graphite is an open source font rendering system coordinated by SIL International. Experimental builds of Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird have been released that have been built with Graphite support.

The graphite rendering engine and graphite font format were created to allow support for minority languages that use complex scripts to be developed. This provides interesting possibilities for some of the African languages that require combining diacritics and for languages like Myanmar/Burmese that require complex rendering and are currently unsupported by operating system developers.
