Dinka (Thuɔŋjäŋ)

Dinka alphabetDinka (Thuɔŋjäŋ) is a Nilotic language from South Sudan. Dinka is commonly divided into four major dialects: Agar, Bor, Padaŋ and Rek, although Dinka is commonly divided into five dialect groups:

  • Northeastern Dinka (dip), commonly known as Padaŋ;
  • Northwestern Dinka (diw);
  • South Central Dinka (dib), commonly known as Agar;
  • Southeastern Dinka (dks), commonly known as Bor; and
  • Southwestern Dinka (dik), commonly known as Rek.

The Dinka alphabet contains 33 uppercase and 33 lowercase characters.
