African languages

Currently African language support on computers is fragmented, with many organisations and software developers using custom character sets. This makes it difficult to exchange information in African languages between different people and organisations. Increasing support for Unicode provides a way to support a greater number of languages and facilitate communication and the exchange of information.

This site will explore issues relating to the use of Unicode. Fonts and input software will be identified, and information pertaining to the design of African language web sites, digital libraries and ebooks will be explored.

This web site is a collabrative effort, allowing people to share their knowledge and skills in order to identify information technology solutions for African languages.

The content of the web site will grow and develop over time.
