The Conference from 30 October-1 November attracted delegates from around Australia and overseas. Some presentations are now online. Please go to the speakers page.
The Open Road multilingual resource, with links to information in many languages was launched at the conference.
Australia is one of the world's most culturally diverse and multilingual countries. When it comes to the internet, how true is this claim of our local content and industry? This conference is devoted to clarifying the current policy response and making known current initiatives.
This landmark conference will explore these issues and provide direction to those concerned with the development of multilingual online services to Australia's diverse communities, regional neighbours, and beyond.
The conference will particularly interest organisations interested in developing and managing online content for linguistically and culturally diverse communities.
"I am pleased to send my greetings to all those participating in the conference.
This conference brings together Australian and International participants and provides an excellent opportunity to showcase current Victorian initiatives in Internet technology and the latest developments in our multilingual websites.
With the new digital environment and the expansion of the Internet, major opportunities are emerging for our culturally and linguistically diverse community to enjoy the benefits that internet technology has to offer.
My government is committed to supporting innovation in service delivery to all Victorians and we have developed the framework for some exciting new projects in this area. For instance, soon we will be piloting the Ethnic Youth Websites project, that will give our ethnic youth skills in developing home pages for their communities.
I look forward to the conference outcomes and to the contribution Victoria can make in developing new information networks. Our success in this area demonstrates what can be achieved in an environment where cultural diversity is embraced.
On behalf of the Victorian Government I wish you a successful and challenging conference".
